This was a great read! I loved the details of looking up at all the faces looking down at you and the memories of their reactions. However there was a little PSTD for me as a close friend had an accident at our house on Thanksgiving in 2009. She was riding a dirt bike my brother-in-law brought and was hit by a truck in front of our house. They actually had to restrain me to keep me away from her, I was so distraught. She had a traumatic brain injury, ruptured spleen, femur broken in two places as well as ribs, and later we found, foot. She was in an induced coma for 2 weeks. Thousands were praying for her and she woke up saying, tell Uncle Mike sorry about the bike. It was pretty miraculous! She's grown now with a family but boy, these events sure do mark us don't they? I loved that your mom made that little device so that you could read. I wonder how she handled all of it after the warning went unheeded? My daughter is an addict so I kind of get that. All the warnings unheeded. Mothers bear the brunt of all the things. Although your father sounds like a dear man.
Oh my, I can imagine how traumatic your experience must have been - and what a miracle that she came through it all! And yes, I have three grown kids of my own, and the older I get, the more respect I have for my own mother, and more deeply understand her way of loving us.
Rosemary, are you aware of the work of Barbara Decker? She runs a program called, Love Another Way, for moms of adult kids with addiction/mental health issues.
Yes, I followed her on Facebook for a while. I haven't read her book but I'll check her out again. Writing here about addiction and homelessness has been very theraputic and helped bring awareness which is badly needed for the community and the parents of addicted.
Thank you Adi for sharing this piece of your life with us! You are a wonderful writer! What an experience for you, your family, the coach and Patty. Definitely Life Reviews are having such an impact on us all in all sorts of ways. So much can move through especially these days.
This. is. AMAZING. Seriously, I was riveted, fighting tears and wracked with full-body chills all in one piece. This is the power of evocative storytelling 😍

Thank you my friend.
Wow. I think I may have read this before ... or heard you share it. What an amazingly powerful experience!
🙏🏼💞🙏🏼
Nicoletta yes, I have shared it on social media before, and loved the idea of adding it to my Substack. It was remarkable indeed!
True believer in intuition here! Fabulous, albeit painful, story. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Andrea. Intuitive expression is a whole language unto itself. :)
