The Light Was Our Body

And Our Body Was the Light

BODY ON FIRE

Let us begin with choosing a perspective
to help us remember who we are

Once upon a time
we knew our self to be a fragment of light
within an infinitely expanding and contracting
expression of Light
We knew nothing but this perfection
and the light was our body
and our body was the Light
and in these waves of life
we felt ourselves to be endless
and immortal
and in this way we knew Source
we knew God
in whatever way we choose to name
this utterly comprehensive
and radiant Love
Think of it
as being a part of an exploding star
which ceaselessly begins, ends, and becomes itself
over and over and over again

In this place there was no possibility
of judgement
of doubt
of blame
of exclusion
for these qualities only exist in separation
They were words
we did not know how to speak
vibrations
we did not have the capacity to feel

And one day we made a choice
to know something that was Other
other than exploding light
other than existential Oneness
other than seamless expression
and it was a choice
and in that choice
was a great power
a great willingness
to know what is true
by daring to witness
what is false

Our means to claim this experience
was to incarnate into a material realm
rooted in awareness of separation
of polarity
of opposites and in-betweens
Like the King who gives up his throne
to know the poor
and the Pauper who seeks the magic
of claiming his majesty
we agreed to this dance
and we were cast out
into the emptiness of space and time
released from the All
we had known
and we were born
flesh and bone
blood and tears
hunger and excrement
youth and age
love and loss
trust and fear
In our state of Other
for the first time we knew abandonment
separation
and the sheer cold terror
of forgetting
who and what we are

We even forgot to realize
the profound courage of such a journey
of such an immersion
into all that we are not
and as babies
thrust from our mother’s womb
the air was harsh on our steaming skin
as we looked for Her
reached for Her
for our way back into Her
and the safety we knew
before our souls took a body
and said yes
we will live a life this way
and one day
we will remember Love

Our mothers
in their bellies and their breasts
gave us all they could
to ease our transition to life
There were many gifts
the gift of sight
the gift of touch
the gift of hearing
the gift of movement
the gift of taste
the gift of emotional sensation
the gift of knowing and growing
the gift of the desire to create

But perhaps the most familiar gift
the one pure reminder of who we are
as shards of exploding light
was the gift of our sexual nature
the electrical force
expressed through sensual arousal
charged vibration
and above all
a sharp, sweet sense of union
reunion
a coming back together
from the state of Other
into the state of One
One with Self
One with Source
and One with another soul
expressed through another body
in a common remembering
of Love

We called this electrical energy Sex
because it needed a name
so strong was its presence
and yet we named it from our limited consciousness
as Other
We named it as a part of separation
and we failed to see
that it was not separate from anything
that it is in everything
in every breath
every cell
every knowing
which calls us to create
to mate
and to birth another Other
to bring another human experience into form
through the electrical essence of our own
and in its vast creative power
this which we have called sexual power
we began to fear it
from the day
we gave it a name

How could we not fear
that which reminds us
over and over
of the thing we agreed to forget?
When we said goodbye
to awareness of our Divinity
To taste it one more time
to return to the womb of the Mother
one more time
became our greatest desire
And it is the nature of separation
to fear that for which
we hunger the most

The memory of our brilliance
is the most terrifying truth
precisely because
we want it so much
We want it
we want it
with every cell of our being
we want it
until we collapse into the horror
of the possibility that it will be denied
And if there is one fear
we are meant to overcome
one great lesson
we are meant to allow
this is it
We are and always will be
infinite exploding light
but we have been given the gift of Choice
so we may know this truth
in consciousness
in awareness
beyond the raging fear
that we have been lost into a darkness
the polarity
of our sacred home...
